Reflections on serving two terms as an Edson Town Councillor:

This experience has been one of the best in my life. I enjoy learning about all the aspects of Municipal government. I still have much to learn as it is always evolving. The position as councillor also gives you the opportunity to serve the needs of the taxpayer.
When I first ran for office, I vowed to be the voice for those that needed it. I have met my commitment and continue to do so.
For Seniors:  I have been an active advocate for housing and fortunately was able to serve on The Board of the Evergreens Foundation, as the Town Representative and as Chair. During the construction of Parkland Lodge, I attended bi weekly construction meetings. which provided me with the opportunity to give valued input. I also served as a director for the provincial organization ASCHA( Alberta Senior and Community Housing Association). We are continuing upgrades at Heatherwood Manor and Heritage Court. On a personal note, I have enjoyed card making with the seniors.
Health Care: Former Mayors and councils as well as citizens lobbied for the new hospital. This facility is top rated, and I feel the dialysis unit was a coup to former councils. This is such a wonderful addition to our community. Independently I sit on the Tamarack Health Advisory Council as Vice Chair. Through this body I have been able to raise issues that have been dealt with at the provincial level. I also am a member of the Edson Community Health Foundation and recently arranged a liaison between the Recycle Center and the Long-Term care to get bird houses and feeding platforms.
The Youth:  I have been an alternate on the Youth Council Committee. This has been a wonderful initiative to encourage youth as future leaders. I was on the planning committee of the Multiplex for the first two years. This facility will serve our youth very well. The spray park was subsidized by council when I was serving as was the spectacular Bike Park at Wilmore Park. I continue to advocate for youth at every opportunity as I spent my career enjoying interacting with youngsters.
The Underprivileged:  I am part of the homeless task force which has been inactive due to Covid. Through my vote on council, I have supported many covid relief efforts. Privately as a member of the Edson and District Recycle Committee, I have supported Anne Auriat in her innovative idea of Shelter Pods. Through my fraternal group we have supported Reflections yearly.
The Environment: This is an area that cannot speak for itself. I currently sit on the Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Committee. I was on this when I first joined council and I am so excited that we have had a consultant in and hope to form a commission that would benefit our four communities. We have constructed a huge wastewater treatment plant and continue to monitor all water. I feel water will be the new Gold. Let us not waste it. The Recycling committee is always coming up with new initiatives in the areas of recycling as well as repurposing. Our youth are usually very literate in the ways of waste management, so I hope our future is well looked after.
